The provision of education to international students is regulated by the Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations (DEEWR) through the Education Services for Overseas Students (ESOS) Act. International students can view details of the ESOS Framework on www.dest.gov.au, which outlines rights and responsibilities for students and education providers. In brief these are outlines below.
KAPS Institute of Management Responsibilities:
The ESOS legislative framework protects the interests of international students by detailing standards of conduct which are consistent for all international educational providers. These standards relate to staff capability, education resources and facilities, marketing of courses, recruitment and enrolment of students.
KAPS Institute of Management has a fee policy which clearly explains the calculation and payment of fees and arrangements in relation to refunds.
KAPS Institute of Management also provides a range of student support services which address the well being of students in terms of adjustment to a new culture as well as academic matters. Students who have concerns about academic or other decisions affecting them have access to the institutes Student Grievance and Resolution Policy.
KAPS is also obliged to monitor and inform DEEWR and DIAC of any changes to enrolment and breaches of visa conditions in relation to course progress. Students have the right to access their personal information.
The Privacy Policy also clearly states that information provided by students maybe made available to Commonwealth or State agencies as required by the ESOS Act.
Student Responsibilities:
Students must abide by the conditions on their student visa whilst studying in Australia. Usually, DIAC imposes the following conditions:
- Students must enroll full time. A reduced load or extension is only permitted in limited circumstances.
- Students must achieve satisfactory academic results
- Students must study with their provider for the first six months of their principal course. Change of providers permitted only in exceptional circumstances.
