KAPS staff members have dedicated roles to support international students. The transition to life and study in a new country can be exciting as you adjust to new ways of teaching and learning, adapt to a different social environment, and finding your way around the campus and the city.
KAPS is proactive in encouraging early support. Early support promotes better resilience and coping to life events. Early support enables more effective solutions. KAPS also is able to provide a range of interventions for traumatic or critical incidences. KAPS’s Student Resilience Model is a well recognized framework for providing effective support structures for students throughout their study life cycle.
In addition, our staff are trained to recognize and refer students who may be experiencing difficulties. We also have a Critical Incident Policy which we enact in the event of more traumatic incidences.
Some students may be subject to distressing personal experiences which can negatively impact on studies, as well as having personal or social consequences. In some cases, students may experience more severe levels of difficulty including physical illness, anxiety, changes in mood and thought patterns or even self-harm. Counseling and support services and especially early recognition and early support are vital for issues related to mental health, relationship difficulties, sudden medical emergencies, emotional disturbances, stress or anxiety.
In addition, adjustment to cultural differences, using English as a second language, employment and financial issues and relationship or family difficulties can interfere with academic and course progress, attendance and future goals.
KAPS is able to support our students with a range of counseling and referral services to ensure our students receive the best care possible.
